Answer:
As of this writing, you cannot upgrade the RAM in the MacBook Air. MacBook Air memory is soldered to the motherboard, so it cannot be modified after purchase. You can, however, upgrade the MacBook Pro to use 16GB of RAM even though it's not officially supported by Apple (the MacBook Pro Retina Display is the exception - it currently has a 16GB built-to-order option).
