Answer:
Yes, launch System Preferences in Mavericks and go to View > Customize. You will have see a checkbox appear next to each panel. Simply uncheck the panels you no longer want to see. If you ever want to see them again, just go back to VIew and select "Show All Preferences" (Command-L).
