What Do I Do If My iPhone Won't Turn On?

Question:

Why won't my iPhone turn on?
- Asked by Bonnie H. June 14th, 2013 (Updated: December 17th, 2014)

Answer:

If your iPhone or iPad is not turning on, the first thing I would recommend is to try charging it for at least ten minutes and then try turning it on. If that doesn't work you can try holding down the power and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo shows up on the screen. This can take as much as fifteen seconds.

If your device still won't turn on, there are a few possibilities.

  • Your battery won't hold a charge any more
  • Your charger is dead (try another, if you can)
  • Your device has some other defect

If you are still having issues it's never a bad idea to make an appointment at your local Apple Store Genius Bar to have any problems diagnosed. Appointments are free, but repairs may cost money if you are out of warranty or depending on the issue.
