Answer:
You can disable Notification Center for one day by holding down the Alt button as you click on the Notification Center menu in the top right corner of your screen. You will notice that the icon is grayed out when Notification Center is inactive.
Alternatively, you can get the same result if you launch Notification Center and swipe down with two fingers. This will bring up a toggle switch that says "Show Alerts and Banners". If you switch that to Off, notifications will not be triggered for one day.
