How Do I Restart My iPhone?

Question:

What's the easiest way to restart an iPhone?
- Asked by Florence M. October 7th, 2018

Answer:

There are multiple ways to restart the iPhone, depending on whether or not it is frozen. First, if it's not frozen:

Owners of the iPhone X or later should hold the side button and either volume button to restart the device. After a second or two the power off slider will appear. Drag the slider to turn off the iPhone. Once it has shut down completely, hold the side button until it starts again.

iPhone 8 or earlier users should hold the top button (or side button in the absence of the top button) until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider so that the iPhone power downs, then hold the top button (or side button) until the Apple logo appears.

If the iPhone screen is frozen or block, the sequences mentioned above will not work. Instead, follow these steps:

For a frozen iPhone 8 or newer, tap volume up, then tap volume down, then hold the side button until the device restarts.

On a frozen iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, hold both the volume down and side buttons until the iPhone restarts. This usually takes about ten seconds.

For a frozen iPhone 6s or earlier, hold the home button on the front of the device plus the top (or side button) until the iPhone reboots.
