How Much RAM Do I Have?

Question:

I'm thinking about upgrading my RAM. How do I tell how much memory is already in my Mac?

Answer:

Before upgrading your RAM, it's important to know how much memory you have installed and how many memory slots your Mac can support.

Find Installed Memory And Number of Memory Slots In Three Steps:

  1. Click on the Apple menu at the top left of your screen and select About This Mac.
  2. Make sure the Overview tab is selected and then click on System Report (OS X Snow Leopard and earlier users should instead click on More Info).
  3. System Information (formerly System Profiler) will launch. Click on Memory in the left panel. The right panel will show the number of memory slots and installed memory.
