Answer:
The standard iPad warranty includes one year of hardware coverage with 90 days of telephone support. If you purchase AppleCare for iPad, the warranty and phone support are both extended to two years.
Unlike AppleCare for a Mac, AppleCare for iPad includes accidental damage protection (water damage, cracked screen, etc.) but only for up to two occasions and there is a $49 fee assessed each time. If you have children or are worried about breaking the iPad, an AppleCare purchase might be a good way to get piece of mind on your investment.
