I want to backup some of my photos but can't find them on my computer. Where does iPhoto store photos on my hard drive?

Answer:

To find iPhoto photos on your Mac, double-click the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop, click on the Users folder, click on your folder within the Users folder, then click on Pictures (or from your desktop, click on the Go menu, then click Home, then click on Pictures).

On Macs with the Photos app (launched in 2015), look inside the Pictures folder for a file named Photos Library. Right-click or hold the Control key while clicking on Photos Library and select Show Package Contents. This will display various related folders containing your photos.

If you are looking for specific photos, navigate to the Originals folder. Photos are organized by date.

For Mac users with the old version of Photos called iPhoto, you can find the photos using a similar method except instead of looking the for Photos Library inside the Pictures folder it's named iPhoto Library.
